Minihi sent me a message of thanks on Instagram and reposted my story. I discovered this artist as one half of the duo is the percussionist for Agnes Obel, an artist who I adore. This message meant a lot as it shows that I have a good appreciation of music, or at least this genre of music, especially considering this genre is not the easiest to understand and fully appreciate. It’s not the same as making the music, but there is a creative aspect to putting playlists together in this way.
Lastly, Claire Deak, an artist who was not featured in the Playlist, sent me a a nice message on Instagram: ‘It’s such a lovely playlist!’. Claire was unknown to me until this message and she forms a duo with Tony Dupé. Both are Melbourne based composers and their debut album has been added to my list to listen to. https://deakdupe.bandcamp.com/releases
I’m thrilled with this feedback, no matter how little it is. I primarily make my playlists for my girlfriend and friends to listen to, so for anyone else to listen and acknowledge them is a welcome bonus. I’m also pleased as it wasn’t my original intention to make it all instrumental. I started out with the intention for this to be a playlist of new tracks that I had been listening to or discovered recently, with the obligatory Bjork track at the beginning. However, once I had put together ten or so tracks I noticed that almost all of the tracks were from the ambient/instrumental genre so I decided to make that the theme of the playlist (The vocal tracks I removed may appear on the next or a future playlist). I have been listening to a lot of instrumental music recently – due to not currently having a job I spend a lot of the day working on job applications, emails, and letters. I have found that instrumental or ambient music is a great accompaniment to this work as it is less distracting.
I really enjoyed theming the playlist in this way once I got going, and I think I will do more with themes in the future.
